Migration continues
The Bashakill was the scene of extensive migration once again today. Karen Miller and I spent the morning combing the area for new arrivals. As we checked out the waterfowl on the water, the real show was in the sky … Continue reading

Bashakill
The past week has been pretty incredible for the end of February. We had many records set during a period that is often nearly devoid of birds here in Sullivan County. Today, things moderated a bit more. Northern Pintails that … Continue reading

I was having dinner this evening when I got a call from a neighbor across the lake. He informed me that there were 23 Tundra Swans on his lake front! His wife informed him they had arrived around 3 pm … Continue reading

Another Great morning at the Bashakill
Thirty seven Tundra Swans above were a new record number for Sullivan Co. I started out at the Pine Boat Launch again this morning. Northern Pintail(24), American Wigeon (34) and Gadwall (10) were all seen. Ring-necked Ducks numbered about (60) … Continue reading

Uptake in waterfowl at the Bashakill
Though not a great shot, the CACKLING GOOSE can be seen in the upper left with a Canada Goose on the right. The Bashakill has really opened up over the last several days, bringing in an abundance of waterfowl. Most … Continue reading

Nice morning at the Bashakill
This morning I birded the Bashakill on what turned out to be a beautiful morning. I started at the Pine Boat Launch (4 wheel drive only) and hiked around the entire trail. It was balmy, in the mid fifties, and … Continue reading
