This morning I headed to the Rondout Reservoir to see if the TRUMPETER SWAN continued. It is still present just off the spillway from the powerhouse. I then worked my way back to the valley and birded the D & H Canal Linear Park at Summitville. It was quite active, but I couldn’t find any Rusty Blackbirds this morning. The best bird there was a duo of BLACK VULTURES soaring over the trail. This is my earliest date ever seeing them in the county. I then headed to the Bashakill, passing through Wurtsboro, where I had a FISH CROW on the pole outside of Stewart’s Shop. I knew this bird was overdue, and was glad to see it. On to the Bashakill where things were about status quo. In fact, there were fewer waterfowl today due to the over-freezing last night. It was still pretty productive. As I went to leave, two Black Vultures were soaring over Rt. 209 at Haven Road. They are undoubtedly the same two I saw at Linear Park two hours earlier.
