A Good start to the month!

November got off to a great start this morning!  First, the continuing birds.  The Surf Scoters on Yankee Lake are now in their tenth day!  The immature Red-necked Grebe on Swan Lake is in its thirteenth day!  At least two Pectoral Sandpipers and two Wilson’s Snipe continue on Resnick Road in Bethel.  Ring-necked and Ruddy Ducks, Lesser Scaup, Green-winged Teal, Common Mergansers and Bufflehead were all seen today.  Sparrows were in good number at the Deli Fields, with Song, Swamp, White-throated, White-crowned and Field all seen.  The only warblers for me today were two Yellow-rumped.  The bird of the day however was an EASTERN SCREECH-OWL I came across in a Wood Duck box!  This is only my second  Eastern Screech this year!  Not a bad start at all!

Addendum: I forgot to mention that finches have found me!  Today I had 8 Pine Siskins, 7 American Goldfinches and a single Purple Finch!  Finally!

Just wanted to let you know that I had 6 Evening Grosbeaks in my front yard in Parksville this morning. The finches appear to have arrived!

  2. That’s fantastic! I was up that way this morning (again) looking all over for them! I’ll have to continue my quest. Thanks for letting me know! John

FYI: I’m not in the village of Parksville, I’m on Aden Rd. close to Tanzman Rd. just outside of Liberty, by the Neversink Reservoir.

  4. Steve,
I know approximately where you are, I was at that intersection yesterday and today without luck. I did get one at Sue’s this morning though! John
