Orange and Ulster Counties

IMG_6848

With things so quiet in Sullivan, I decided to branch out for the morning. I hadn’t been to Weston Road Swamp in Ulster County yet this year, so I headed over there to try for Red-headed Woodpeckers.  I was easily able to see at least three of these beautiful birds.  Once I was done there, I called my friend Bruce Nott to see if he has had any Black-crowned Night-herons at Washington Lakes Masterson Park recently.  He said he hadn’t, but would meet me and we could try to find some. It was nice being out with Bruce again and we had lots of birds including my FOS Great Egrets for Orange County.  We never found the Night-herons, but Bruce is going to keep an eye out for me. It was a nice morning of birding and good to catch up with Bruce.
