Bashakill Waterfowl Bonanza!

I birded the Bashakill this morning and it was immediately apparent that an abundance of waterfowl had come in overnight. I did the best I could to count the individuals, but some times it was tough, there were just so many. Here is a list of what was present along with the total numbers I could come up with:

Canada Geese – 400
Wood Duck -450
Gadwall – 5
American Wigeon – 35
American Black Duck – 200
Mallard – 200
Northern Pintail – 70
Green-winged Teal -24
Ring-necked Duck -400
Lesser Scaup – 80
Bufflehead -24
Hooded Merganser 24
Common Merganser – 7
Pied-billed Grebe -1

That’s a lot of waterfowl!

  1. I love this time of year, things are happening and it’s so exciting. That’s an awful lot of good birds in one place.

  2. It really is exciting! I would love to get some of the birds you had in Orange today too though!
