Bashakill

Scott Baldinger, Karen Miller and I birded the Bashakill this morning. Sparrows, other than White-throated were considerably down from the last few days. Warblers on the other hand were the prominent birds of the day. 40 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 20 Palm Warblers, 2 Black-throated Blue, 1 Magnolia and 1 really nice Nashville Warbler were all seen. This was my best warbler day in a while! Great Egrets numbered 19! That’s a really high number for this late in the season. Rusty Blackbirds were in pretty good numbers in the marsh off the Nature Trail, but an exact count was difficult due to them being right down in the vegetation. Both Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal numbered in the thirties! Another nice day. With the continued northwest winds overnight, maybe we’ll get something really good tomorrow.
