Morningside Park

This Green Heron was unusually cooperative this morning. It was much more preoccupied with catching fish than keeping and eye on me.

Another nice morning at Morningside. I got there a bit late, and it was already hot! The birds didn’t seem to mind too much. Numbers were down today, my lowest count in over two weeks, but some nice birds were still present. The herons seemed to steel the show this morning. Four Great Blues spent most of their time squawking and chasing each other around the lake. A single Green Heron was catching fish on the Lily Pad raft. I only had 1 Solitary, 1 Spotted, 2 Semipalmated and 6 Least Sandpipers today. A Belted Kingfisher is always nice to see.
This Semipalmated Sandpiper seemed to just be relaxing in cool mud on a hot day.

Thanks for posting. I haven’t seen any shorebirds (locally) recently (water levels too high), so I enjoy seeing them in your post. Love the pictures of the juvenile Semipalmated Plover, and the Green Heron. I may make a trip there soon. 🙂

  2. Thanks Linda! There were eight species again this morning. Good photo ops by kayak. Nice to hear from you! John
