Apollo Shore Birds

Greater Yellowlegs at Apollo Plaza

Greater Yellowlegs at Apollo Plaza

This morning Lance Verderame found our FOS GREATER YELLOWLEGS at the Apollo Plaza. Yesterday, the area got some much needed rain in the form of some heavy thunder storms. This replenished the diminishing pools at the Apollo. This morning I headed up to see the Greater Yellowlegs which was very cooperative. There were also 9 Killdeer, 2 Spotted Sandpipers (ongoing chicks) and 1 Least Sandpiper. There have been six Leasts present, but only one was seen this morning. Perhaps they moved on with the front last night.

That’s a real nice picture, John. Love the bird in this habitat.
