Bill Fiero and I covered Bill’s area of the Southern Orange Christmas Count area. We had a good day, though I thought numbers of species was on the low side. Highlights of the 32 species seen were Red-shouldered Hawk, Rough-legged Hawk, Black Vulture and Horned Larks. The real highlight however was a rather common species. We found a beautiful leusistic Red-tailed Hawk on Amity Road. This bird was absolutely beautiful! I have seen many leusistic Red-tailed Hawks, but this was the first one that had a predominantly red tail. What a beautiful bird. While we had no real rarities, it was a good day. Hopefully, the other teams will have done as well.
