I started out on the beach this morning, working my way up to the point. It was an extremely birdy morning with my highest morning count of gulls and terns so far this trip. When I reached the point, I immediately found one of the Franklin’s Gulls on the first spit just past the last jetty. The bird was very cooperative, and remained in that location the entire two hours I was there. At around 8:30, Vince McGrath and Jose Padilla arrived and had great views of the bird. Extensive searching this morning failed to turn up the second Franklin’s. There are also tremendous numbers of gulls and terns roosting a mile up the beach, so perhaps its with that group. Also of note were two adult Lesser Black-backed gulls in nearly identical plumage. Another five gull morning, not bad.
