I covered the same locations today, seeing if the birds continued and what new might have come in. It was a good day. Duck numbers skyrocketed overnight. 200 Wood Duck were on the Birch Trail, along with the now 42 AMERICAN COOT! This is probably a record high number in the county for me. Mallards number in the hundreds. I had 5 Green-winged Teal, 7 American Wigeon and a couple of dozen Black Ducks. On Haven Road, 5 American Pipits, 2 Horned Lark and 3 American Tree Sparrows were present this afternoon. I also saw 3 Ring-necked Pheasants. Nice day!

You lucky duck, John. Pun intended. Now I really know why I want to retire in a few months

Hey John. Where abouts are these Coot? Do you think they’d still be there? I have never seen one before.

    • Truth, Yes, they are still there. They are on the Birch Trail. Go to Main Boat Launch and head east as if you were going out to the tower. The Coot are a couple of hundred feet before you reach the woods. In other words, just before the water ends on the right side of the trail. Arlene and I just saw them again at noon. Duck hunting does start again tomorrow however, so its anyone’s guess. Good luck! John

I found them! 45 in all, plus my FOY Fox Sparrow. It gets cold FAST this time of year! Thanks again.
