This morning I birded throughout the Bashakill checking for newly arrived species. On Haven Road, the two Tree Swallows I had found yesterday continued. Its got to be tough on insectivores with temps overnight in the teens. They seem to be doing well though, easily viewed catching flying insects over the water in the freezing temps. Waterfowl numbers are picking up. Here is a list of todays highlights:

Canada Geese – 150
Mute Swan – 1
Wood Duck – 42
Black Duck -50
Mallard – 75
Green-winged Teal – 4
Ring-necked Duck – 34
Common Mergansers – 50
Hooded Mergansers – 30
Great Blue Heron – 1
Bald Eagle – 4
Tree Swallow – 2
Fox Sparrow – 1
