New York State Black Skimmer Interesting Information

In follow up to Rob Stones remarkable find of a BLACK SKIMMER on Glenmere Lake earlier this week, I did some research. All of this information was found on E-bird and can be verified there. This bird is the first “truly inland” record of Black Skimmer in New York State. There are only five previous records considered inland, and four of those were on the Hudson River. One additional record is from Lake Ontario. This bird was found twenty miles west of the Hudson River. This bird is only the sixth record ever from Region 9 in New York. There are three coastal records from Westchester County, one Hudson River record from Westchester County and one Rockland County record from the Hudson. All of this adds up to make this find truly remarkable in deed.
