Wallkill NWR – the new river trail

I got a call from Rob Stone this morning 9/25 informing me he had found a Connecticut Warbler on the above trail. I headed right down and together he, Curt McDermott and I tried to relocate the bird over the next couple of hours. While we weren’t successful in doing so, there were many good birds about. This is a great new trail that offers promise of some good finds in the future. Today we had several species of warbler, one if not two PHILADELPHIA VIREOS and a beautiful GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH. I highly recommend checking the abundant Virginia Creeper berries along the trail near the river after it comes to a Y in the trail. Stick to the left. There are many berries in that area and it should continue to be productive for some time. Thanks Rob for the heads up.
