Summitville Hawk Watch

Today I manned the Summitville Hawk Watch for the first time this season. I wasn’t expecting much as the forecast was for light winds out of the south. Due to some further business I had to take care of, I didn’t arrive until 10:45 am. Much to my surprise, birds were moving on thermals, rather than the wind. I remained at the watch until 3:15pm. Here are my totals:

Turkey Vulture – 2
Red-shouldered Hawk – 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk -3
Broad-winged Hawk – 270
Total: 276 raptors
Also seen was a Black Vulture not migrating and 15 Common Raven
Not a bad day.
