After getting a heads up from both Rob Stone and Matt Zeitler about shore birds in the Pine Island area, I headed there this moring. From what I understand, the water that resulted from Friday’s flooding has receded considerably. I only found standing water in one field at the Pine Island Turf Nursery. There were quite a few shore birds there, but the Baird’s Sandpipers had departed. From there I went to Oil City Road and the Camel Farm. I also stopped at Turtle Bay and Skinner’s Lane, but there were no birds at either location. Here is what I saw:

Pine Island Turf Nursery:
Killdeer – 40
Semipalmated Plover – 1
Pectoral Sandpiper – 2
Spotted Sandpiper – 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper – 1
Least Sandpiper – 32
Lesser Yellowlegs – 3

Camel Farm:
Killdeer – 50
Pectoral Sandpiper – 2
Least Sandpiper – 1
Lesser Yellowlegs – 1

Oil City Road:
Great Egret – 2
Belted Kingfisher – 1
