Kayaking the Bashakill

This morning after checking out Haven Road and driving along South Road, I kayaked the channel from the Main Boat Launch to Haven Road and back. I counted the birds on the way out. Common Gallinules were very active this morning and I was able to see four of the twelve I encountered. Great Blue Herons were all over and both Eagles and Osprey were flying all over. The highlight of the morning however was a pair of LEAST BITTERN I found along the channel in a spot they had bred two years ago, but not last year. I was never able to get a glimpse of them, but they called back and forth continually. Upon my return, passing them again, they were still at it two hours later. I was still able to locate at least two Cerulean Warblers along South Road among the more common warblers. I had no migrants today what so ever.
