Migration starts to pick up

This morning there was finally some noticeable movement at the Bashakill. Duck numbers have decreased somewhat and passerines are really increasing. FOS Chipping Sparrows, about two dozen Eastern Phoebes, five Wilson’s Snipe, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and six Horned Grebes (as well as four Pied-billed Grebes) were all seen. Three FOS Pine Warblers were present, two at the Pine Boat Launch and one at the Deli Fields up hill in the pines. Rusty Blackbirds continue in good numbers. Tree Swallows are everywhere and an occasional Barn Swallow is among them. Scott Baldinger found a Brown Thrasher on the Nature Trail that I missed and he also reports a couple of Virginia Rails.
