127 of the 155 Rusty Blackbirds on the Stop Sign Trail 3/25/13

The Bashakill continues to be jumping. Highlights this morning were the continuing 500 + Ring-necked Ducks, 23 American Wigeon, 20 Northern Pintail, 100+ Wood Ducks, 25 Green-winged Teal, 2 Lesser Scaup, 1 Greater Scaup, 15 Bufflehead, 3 Common Goldeneye, 40 Hooded Mergansers, 25 Common Mergansers, 250+ Mallards, 150+ Black Ducks, one each Red-shouldered Hawk and Cooper’s Hawk. The best bird of the day was however a passerine. RUSTY BLACKBIRDS numbered 155 on the Stop Sign Trail. This is the highest count of this species I have had in many years! It is a good sign for a species that has been in trouble the last ten years.
