This morning I met Ken McDermott and Danny Messina in Newburgh where we started our trip north to Carlisle Massachusetts. Three and a half hours later we arrived at 338 Maple Street. After some confusion over where the birders were located, we finally found them behind a garage at 313 Maple. They informed us the bird had been coming in about every half hour. Fifteen minutes later it flew into a Barberry bush down slope from our vantage point. The bird was gorgeous and offered great views to all. It returned three times to the bushes over the next hour. Try as I might, I couldn’t get a photo of the bird. There were many bushes and basket fence between us and the camera couldn’t focus on the bird through them. After a period of not being seen, I relocated the bird in a large juniper at the far side of the yard. I had seen Robins going in and out of it the entire time we were there, and finally the Fieldfare popped up in the tree. Again seen well by all. We finally pulled ourselves away to have a good lunch before heading back to New York. A big thanks to Larry Scacchetti for sharing a couple of the shots he took while we were there with him. What a day!

Congrats on the Fieldfare! Sorry I couldn’t go with you guys but my back has been barking limiting my movements. FYI: Had 3 Gadwalls yesterday out at Pine boat launch and Wood Duck numbers were enormous over 200 seen with a huge amount at Pine boat launch. Also saw 3 Pied-billed Grebes and 2 Mute Swans. Finally got a Tree Swallow (2 over Haven Rd causeway)!

    • Thanks Scott, hope your back is better.  I will be out this morning looking for the Gadwall etc  Later today, a guy I met at the Fieldfare is sending me some of his shots to post on my blog.  It was a great day, sorry you missed it. John
