Today I spent the better part of the day, searching for the Pink Footed Goose found by Ken and Curt McDermott yesterday. Rob Stone and Curt were both out this morning as well. We covered the entire black dirt region to the best of our ability. No PFGO. We saw tremendous numbers of geese. By best estimate I saw 7 – 8,000 Canada Geese and 2,000 Snow Geese. Remarkably I couldn’t find a single other goose species in all those birds. Curt did find a Cackling Goose which eluded me. Other birds of interest were a few Killdeer, some Horned Larks and Red-tailed Hawks. On the Wallkill River there were a few Common Mergansers and a nearby pond had four Ring-necked Ducks. We will be out off and on over the next few days to try to find the goose in a huge area among an abundance of birds.
