Birding around the upper portions of the county today, I ran into numerous flocks of Snow Buntings. Apparently since the last two storms, these birds have moved into the county from the north. I had a total of 99 of them today in four flocks. Also of note was a Fox Sparrow along the Neversink River. Very rare in the county in winter, it was a nice find. Here in the southern section of the county, Winter Finches continue to dominate with many American Goldfinches, COMMON REDPOLLS, Pine Siskins and Purple Finches being seen. Scott’s feeders continue to be the easiest place to view these birds.
