Sacket Lake and Forestburgh areas

While out scoping my Christmas Bird Count area again this morning, I realized what a difference a week can make. So many new birds have come in to my sector and others that were common only a week ago could not be found. Highlights of todays trip included American Robin, Hermit Thrush, GRAY CATBIRD, Brown Creeper, Ruddy Duck and Lesser Scaup. It seems clear that half hardy species are remaining in the area. The Winter Berry and Bar Berry crops are good in this sector as is open water. This might hold these birds through next weeks count period. Both the catbird and Ruddy Duck would be new to my count area if they remain. I had a total of 34 species plus an accipiter that disappeared before I could conclusively ID it.
