Bashakill – Haven Road VESPER SPARROWS

one of two Vesper Sparrows on Haven Road 10/17/12

The Bashakill continues to be alive with Sparrows. I had all the usual suspects this morning, but couldn’t find a Lincoln’s for the first time. The Deli Fields and Haven Road are the best locations. Many Yellow-rumped Warblers and at least one Common Yellowthroat continue as well. After a decent day at the Hawk Watch with Renee Davis, I went back to the Bash to check Haven Road again. I almost immediately spotted two VESPER SPARROWS. I was able to reach Scott and Paula Baldinger and Arlene Borko, all of whom got to see the birds. If anyone is interested in trying for them, they are located on Haven Road between the bridge and the rt. 209 parking lot. There is a Maple tree on the Wurtsboro side with a Bashakill WMA sign on it. They were frequenting that area this afternoon, still present at 5 pm.
