Around the County

A Lesser Yellowlegs and Solitary Sandpiper at the Apollo Plaza 8/8/12

Following several days of being tied up with a family emergency, I was able to get out to do some birding and kayaking this morning. Shore bird migration still seems to be missing us, with some of the poorest results for July and August that I have ever seen. The only new bird this morning, was a single LESSER YELLOWLEGS at the Apollo Plaza. Many Ring-billed Gulls and a few Double-crested Cormorants were the only other signs of migration. I still had a nice morning with many birds. At the Bashakill, at least three Great Egrets continue, and there are probably many more. Morningside Park had a few continuing shore birds, but not much else. I tallied 42 species for the day. Still a beautiful morning to be out and about.
