Another great day in Sullivan County

Eight of 13 Horned Grebes present on Kiamesha Lake 4/1/12

For the second day in a row, a major waterfowl fallout occurred. Arlene Borko and I were able to see a total of 63 species today. Highlights included 14 White-winged Crossbills at Cooley Bog with Lance Verderame. Forty plus Pine Siskins. At all of the previously mentioned lakes and reservoirs we had good numbers of birds, most of which were new from yesterday, at least in numbers and locations. Highlights:

Pied-billed Grebe – 4
Long-tailed Duck – 24
White-winged Scoter – 4
Ruddy Duck – 2
Bufflehead – 100
Ring-necked Duck – 75
Greater Scaup – 3
Lesser Scaup – 6
Common Merganser – 40
Green-winged Teal – 25
American wigeon – 2
Common Goldeneye – 3
Common Loon – 1

additionally, we had our FOS Merlin and FOS BONAPARTE’S GULLS (4 Swan Lake) Great birding!
