Morningside Park and Hilldale Pond Shorebirds

Semi-palmated Sandpiper at Morningside Park 7/26/11

This morning I returned to the above locations,as I will be doing regularly during fall migration, to see what came in. For an inland mountain county, we get a good number of shorebirds annually. Our record is 21 species in a year, and we have a total of 26 species that have been recorded. This morning, I had seven species. 27 Killdeer, 16 Least Sandpipers, 4 Spotted Sandpipers, 3 Solitary Sandpipers, 3 Semi-palmated Sandpipers, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs and 1 Semi-palmated Plover. This is a good count for July. Most of our shorebirds arrive in August and September.
