Bashakill – 7/25/11

Common Moorhen near bridge on Haven Road 7/25/11

Yesterday and today, I birded parts of the Bashakill. Lance Verderame joined me on Sunday. Following a couple of weeks of extreme heat with almost no marsh birds being seen or heard, the Bashakill is coming back to life. Green Herons have been being seen in good numbers, a pair with at least one hatchling are hanging around the bridge on Haven Road for three days now. Common Moorhens came out along the channel today. They should either have eggs that are ready to hatch or may have just done so. With temperatures forecasted to be somewhat lower with some rain, bird activity should pick up through the week. I’ll keep you posted. John Haas
