Great Blue Heron at Morningside Park

Great Blue Heron at Morningside Park

I birded Morningside again today, hoping for some new shore birds, but little had changed. Last night, Lance Verderame found and adult Greater Yellowlegs at the Apollo Plaza, and it was there this morning around 9am. There were fewer Least Sandpipers at Morningside, but everything else was the same. I thought last nights storms would put something new down, but it didn’t happen. The Herons were a bit more cooperative for photos today than they usually are.

    These are nice shots John
I know so little about fall migration. Do you think it would be worth a trip to apollo and morningside tomorrow morning?

    • Its really hard to say Wilma.  Some days Apollo is great, others not so much.  Morningside is tough because you absolutely need a scope to view the islands from shore, or a kayak like I do.  I think your best bet for shore birds would be Six and half Station Road, because you can get a little closer there than Morningside.  If there are some good birds at Apollo, I can give you a call if you like.  John

Thank you John, that would be nice
I have not gotten a scope yet. I haven’t decided what to get.

    • Sorry, there was nothing at Apollo this morning, and just Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers at Morningside.  There are a couple of Olive-sided Flycatchers at the Bashakill, namely the Deli Fields and the Stop Sign Trail.  Good luck if you go.  Always look at the top of large dead trees for these birds!  John
